During the first week of the ACL Music Festival a few folks were lucky enough to be able to attend an intimate show with the Court Yard Hounds at the Gibson Texas Showroom in Austin. Gibson’s venue, tucked away in a business park off South Congress, is one of the worst-kept secrets in the Texas music scene. If you ever get an invite to go to a show there, jump at it!

The Hounds played a few songs and spent the better part of an hour answering questions from the audience. Quite an experience.

Court Yard Hounds – Divided (Live at Gibson)

The Court Yard Hounds are the latest musical adventure for sisters Emily Robison and Martie Maguire, a side foray into some down-to-earth roots music for two artists best known as two-thirds of the platinum-selling superstars The Dixie Chicks. Focusing on their own original songwriting and putting their own sweet harmonies front and center, they take their country and bluegrass roots to plenty of charming and interesting places on their newest album Amelita.

They made time to share some of the material live at the Gibson Texas Showroom while in town for ACL Festival 2013.

The National – I Need My Girl (Live Acoustic)

The National, formed in Ohio and cultivated in New York City, have been one of the most critically acclaimed bands of the last decade. Touring worldwide and releasing album after album of challenging, intricate music, they have steadily risen to become among the most prominent voices in modern rock. In Austin as one of the top featured acts at ACL Festival 2013, they were kind enough to stop at the Gibson Texas Showroom and perform a few key tracks from their fine new record Trouble Will Find Me, including “I Need My Girl”.

Matt introduced I Need My Girl as “a depressing love song” before the Dessner brothers began playing it on two Gibson J-45 acoustic guitars.

I love musicians that you meet in real life who are a mirror image of their songs. Check out his latest album on iTunes here. He’s one of the good guys worth your $9 in support.
