Meet Curtis Grimes
“Nothing can prepare you for performing to millions of viewers each week”
Sharing the stage with a mega star in Country music isn’t how most Artists begin their career. And for most Artists, performing to millions of television viewers isn’t one of their first gigs. Both happened however, for Texas native Curtis Grimes. After teaching himself to play the guitar from an online class, Curtis developed a passion for songwriting and performing. By the summer of 2007, just two years after purchasing his first guitar from a pawnshop, Curtis had formed a band and was playing in venues throughout Texas. Curtis, who grew up in Gilmer Texas had always thought he would play professional baseball. After playing competitive baseball for nearly a decade he decided to chase a new dream and pursue music full time.
In the first few years of performing Curtis won a local contest to open for Country music superstar Kenny Chesney. Curtis opened the show for about 20 thousand Kenny Chesney fans, an experience he says that felt very surreal. “Getting to open for Kenny and then being invited back on stage to sing a song with him was an incredible experience.” Curtis went on to say,
“There were so many people there but I remember seeing my Mom a few rows back, and thinking, I’m doing this, this is really happening.”
Shortly after opening for Chesney, Curtis had another ‘once in a lifetime’ opportunity when he appeared in season one of the hit NBC show “The Voice.” Curtis was chosen for Cee Lo Green’s team that season and made it into the final 16. “Nothing can prepare you for performing to millions of viewers each week,” said Curtis. Who added that one of the most stressful aspects of being on the show wasn’t performing, but was having cameras follow him everywhere for weeks at a time. That experience however, helped prepare him when he joined the award winning television docu- reality series, Troubadour, TX for season 3. “Everything about being on Troubadour, TX is real. There are cameras everywhere, but the producers don’t tell you what to say or do. They’re just there filming as it happens.”
The Troubadour, TX film crew has been following Curtis’s story since last April. “The crew has been with me pretty much everywhere,” says Curtis. Explaining that the film crew was with him when he opened for the Eli Young Band, recorded his new album in Nashville, went fishing with his Grandfather and a lot of other gigs and events in between.
Curtis Grimes highly anticipated album, Our Side Of The Fence released on February 11th. The twelve-track album features hit single “The Cowboy Kind” that went #1 on The Texas Music Chart and Texas Regional Radio Chart. “This record is a great reflection of me. These are all songs that I can relate to, and it says everything I currently feel about my life. I’m a fan of traditional country music, and I wanted Our Side of the Fence to be as traditional as possible, but also appeal to fans of today’s country, and that’s exactly what we’ve done,” says Grimes.
